If you’ve been considering starting a blog of your own, and beginning an online business, then you already know it can be a bit intimidating and scary. This is especially true if you’re new to the whole thing. But no need to worry, there are lots of free resources out there to help you along your way. I’m going to list 5 simple tips in regard to search engine optimization that you always want to keep in mind.
- Content – You best friend is going to be your content. It’s the backbone of your site. They don’t call your content ‘King’ for no reason. This is what will bring people to your site and get your links clicked on. Content is sometimes referred to as ‘link bait’. Even an ugly website is able to pull in revenue if it has great content. You want your content to be fresh, inviting, informative, and interesting.
- Keywords – Your keywords need to make up at least 6% of all your content. These are the words that will show up on the search engine results pages. Once you’ve picked your keywords, then you should alter all the settings on your site to revolve around them. They are what let people know what your niche is, and what draws in like-minded people, who are your target audience. But never overdo it, keyword stuffing is frowned upon.
- Linking – Millions of people are online every day, and you need to find people to link up with that have credibility. Search engines love to give you credit for ‘quality’ links, which are links coming to your site from sites with a good page rank already. This is like a ‘vote’ for your site. It carries a lot of weight with the search engines.
- Social Bookmarking – Marketing with social media has been growing like wildfire. It’s a smart way of obtaining good backlinks to your site, and for gaining lots of exposure for your product/services.
- Variety – We all know variety is our ‘spice of life’. It’s the flavor of living. Don’t get bogged down with one set of keywords. Find all the keywords you can, and develop your business around all the various aspects of these keywords. Each page of your site should be treated as an individual, much like brothers and sisters of the same family. SEO is very important to your success, and you want to target your SEO efforts around as many relevant keywords as possible to increase all your chances for success.
